Compare

Where Vekri fits among AI agent security tools.

Vekri decides each agent operation on the server side: who is calling, what this task allows, whether a person approved this exact change, and with which credential it runs. It also finds the AI on workstations and inspects what tools return to agents. Many teams use it alongside browser, data-loss and endpoint tools.

How we compare

Sourced, dated and open to correction.

  • Every statement about another product comes from that vendor's own public documentation, linked on the page, with the date we read it.
  • When we could not find a capability documented, we say "not in public docs". That does not mean the product lacks it; products in this market change quickly.
  • Vekri's column describes the current release, including what it does not do. Maturity differs too: most products here have been generally available for some time, and Vekri's current release has not yet had an external security review.
  • Something out of date or wrong? Tell us and we will correct it.

By category

Vekri and four kinds of tools.

What is typical of each category, in our reading of the products compared here. Individual products differ; each comparison has the detail.

Decides each tool call inline

Every agent tool call is allowed or denied before it reaches the protected system.

VekriYes
MCP gateway; denied calls never reach the system.
MCP and AI gateways
Typical: an inline proxy with per-tool rules.
AI security platforms
Varies: through hooks, gateways or APIs.
Agent identity and access
Some: newer MCP gateways; others issue tokens the agent uses directly.
Endpoint AI monitoring
On the device, through hooks or a local gateway.

Verified workload identity

An agent running as a workload proves who it is with a credential the platform issued, not a shared key.

VekriYes
Kubernetes tokens with TokenReview; SPIFFE in part.
MCP and AI gateways
Varies: OIDC and JWT; SPIFFE in some.
AI security platforms
Rare: identity usually comes from the IdP user.
Agent identity and access
Typical: a core strength.
Endpoint AI monitoring
The device user, not a workload.

Employee agents use company SSO

Agents that employees run sign in as that employee, through the company identity provider.

VekriYes
MCP authorization server, federated to OpenID Connect.
MCP and AI gateways
Typical.
AI security platforms
Varies: activity linked to IdP users.
Agent identity and access
Typical: a core strength.
Endpoint AI monitoring
Typical: the signed-in user.

Task-scoped permissions from the server

What an agent may do is set per task by the server, not by the agent or its prompt.

VekriYes
A run scope or an access assignment, per task.
MCP and AI gateways
Rare.
AI security platforms
Rare.
Agent identity and access
Varies: just-in-time access grants.
Endpoint AI monitoring
Rare.

Policy as code, deny by default

Decisions come from versioned policy, and anything not allowed is refused.

VekriYes
Cedar over typed operations; errors deny.
MCP and AI gateways
Varies: access lists, CEL, Cedar in some.
AI security platforms
Typical, though the policy language is rarely published.
Agent identity and access
Varies: roles and allow lists; Cedar in some.
Endpoint AI monitoring
Typical: allow, monitor or block rules.

Approval of the exact operation

A person approves one specific operation, and the approval cannot be reused for another.

VekriYes
Another person approves the exact operation.
MCP and AI gateways
Rare: one product binds an approval to a single request.
AI security platforms
Rare: some route an action to a person.
Agent identity and access
Varies: approvals usually grant access for a period, not one operation.
Endpoint AI monitoring
Rare: a local confirmation by the developer.

Agent never holds backend credentials

Secrets for the protected system stay out of the agent's reach.

VekriYes
A broker executes; tokens are never forwarded.
MCP and AI gateways
Varies: injection or passthrough.
AI security platforms
Rare: secrets are masked rather than brokered.
Agent identity and access
Typical: injection or short-lived tokens.
Endpoint AI monitoring
Rare.

Audit evidence of decision and outcome

Each call leaves a durable record of what was decided and what happened.

VekriYes
Intent before execution, outcome after.
MCP and AI gateways
Typical.
AI security platforms
Typical.
Agent identity and access
Typical, often with session recording.
Endpoint AI monitoring
Typical.

AI agents on workstations

Finds AI coding agents and other AI applications on employee devices, and watches or controls what they do there.

VekriPartly
Discovery, MCP gateways and agent control; hooks observe. macOS and Linux.
MCP and AI gateways
Rare: one detects MCP traffic on the network.
AI security platforms
Typical in newer modules, often with blocking.
Agent identity and access
Rare.
Endpoint AI monitoring
Typical: the core of the category.

Prompt and output inspection

Detects prompt injection or sensitive data in what models read and write.

VekriPartly
Prompt injection in tool results; sensitive data on the device.
MCP and AI gateways
Varies: guardrails for model traffic, less for MCP.
AI security platforms
Typical: a core strength.
Agent identity and access
Rare.
Endpoint AI monitoring
Typical: data-loss prevention.

Systems covered

Which systems, platforms or agents the product works with.

Vekri
Kubernetes, GitHub and more in preview.
MCP and AI gateways
Broad: many models, servers and catalogs.
AI security platforms
Broad: SaaS, cloud and endpoint agents.
Agent identity and access
Broad: clouds, SaaS and infrastructure.
Endpoint AI monitoring
Broad: browsers, desktops and AI tools.

Deployment

How the product is delivered.

Vekri
Vekri's cloud, or self-hosted on Kubernetes.
MCP and AI gateways
SaaS, self-hosted and open source.
AI security platforms
Mostly SaaS; some self-hosted.
Agent identity and access
Mostly SaaS; some self-hosted.
Endpoint AI monitoring
SaaS with device agents.

Comparisons

MCP and AI gateways

Proxies that route model and MCP traffic, gather MCP servers behind one endpoint and apply per-tool access rules. Several now add policy, credential injection and guardrails.

Comparisons

AI security platforms

Discovery, posture, guardrails and detection across SaaS, cloud and endpoint agents. Decisions usually come from detectors, risk scores and intent analysis, enforced through hooks, gateways or APIs.

Comparisons

Agent identity and access

Identity and access platforms that issue agent identities, inject or broker credentials and, increasingly, proxy MCP traffic with per-tool rules. Astrix Security, often listed here, is now part of Cisco and no longer sold on its own.

Comparisons

Endpoint AI monitoring

Agents and browser extensions on employee devices that discover AI tools, apply data-loss prevention and, in some products, block agent actions on the device.

Works with

Tools Vekri is built to sit beside.

  • Numbat

Perplexity's open-source endpoint tool for agent activity. Vekri Observe ingests what it records, alongside Vekri Endpoint.

  • Your identity provider

Vekri signs people and employees' agents in through your OpenID Connect provider and provisions users and groups with SCIM.

  • Browser and data-loss tools

Vekri inspects tool results for prompt injection and detects sensitive data on the device, but not in browsers or file uploads. Browser and data-loss products cover those, while Vekri decides what an agent may do.
